KEY PENINSULA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION MINUTES

LUNCH MEETING

Sheryl Mirenta Speaker

“Teens need something to do.  It’s been my goal to build a game room.  So far, I’ve not been able to do this, funding being the major reason.

~ they need something to do after school and during off hours from school

~ wants to fill the gap of parents work schedules

~ teen game and study room

~ won’t be free to teens- wants them off the street and productive, to give them a taste of what’s to come, and what it takes to run a small business

~ envisions 20 -25 computers; students will be able to work for use privileges

~ envisions 2-3 rooms, 1 for studying after school 2 for the games computers

~ if they can’t pay they can earn use voucher, ie; by working at painting, Angel Guild, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning main game rooms, assisting in community as needed

~ envisions higher end machines

~ located on the bus route

~ has searched (locally) for funding, none to be found, she can get $25,000 now, but no place to have it, and don’t have a 501(c)(3) for allowing for donors to get tax write off

In conclusion, this would be a place to go for all the kids on the peninsula that is a central location, where kids can work for money, for the community, for game room use.  All benefits the community.  Thank you”

Suggestions:

  1. Red Barn already has 501(c)(3)
  2. contact Youth Council
  3. Community Council come to our meeting (May)  your project is perfect fit
  4. kids need jobs and mentoring self esteem
  5. they eat a lot, could use donations of food
