Minutes for Friday, Sept 3, 2004

 

Place: Homeport Restaurant, 7:30am by Vice President Fred Ramsdell

Present: Marv Keizur, Barb Heard, Dennis Taylor, Marty Marcus, Ruth Bramhall, Ed Taylor, Claudia Loy, Bek Ashby, Eric Nelsen, Jeff Harris, Joyce Tovey.

Guest Speakers: None

Secretary’s Report/Corres: A correction to the Aug. 6 minutes included changing the road clean up volunteers to Nancy, Bob and Marty.  It was MSC to approve the corrected minutes. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $3421.44

Old Business/Committees:

  1. KP Community Council – Jeff reported that officers were elected and committees were created.  It was MSC (Jeff) to allocate $500 to the council for their administrative costs.  Joyce reminded everyone that requests would be considered at the following meeting.
  2. KP Fair –Ed said the layout was good but that rain affected the attendance. KPBA sold all their raffle tickets.  Some expressed there was too much going on in one weekend.
  3. Business Economic Development – Claudia reported that Ron Finley is working on tourism.
  4. Key Peninsula Community Plan – Mike Kruger (798-2700) is still recruiting for committees.  Claudia has faxed in her form to Mike.
  5. KP News – Ed reported it is working fine.  Members were encouraged to use the Peninsula Market coupons located in the paper.
  6. Road Clean Up –Fred will contact Nancy regarding the duties and organizing of this group.
  7. Purdy KPBA Welcome Sign – Dennis checked with Pierce County and they said the sign can be moved and needs to be 10 ft. off the easement.  Ruth said it was ok with the oyster man to move it to his property.  Fred said a committee should be formed.  He’ll make some phone calls and report next meeting.

New Business:

  1. KPBA Sign at Volunteer Park – Ed said our sign is looking bad (dirty and letters missing).  Joyce will contact someone from Little League about the upkeep.
  2. Luncheon Speakers- Dennis volunteered to line up speakers for our luncheon meetings.
  3. Public Affairs Forum – Bek reported the meeting focused on tests and codes for septic systems.  She also said Terry Lee submitted to budget to have a land use permitting office located & staffed in Gig Harbor.  Fred will write a letter to John Ladenburg supporting this idea and Claudia suggested supporting e-mails to John Ladenburg (John@Ladenburg.org).
  4. Restaurants – Eric mentioned new area restaurants as possible locations for meetings.

Individual Reports:

Eric encouraged everyone to vote for the Lid Lift Levy on Sept. 14th.  They are in the process of moving into the Wauna Fire Station, putting 4 new engines into service and officer positions are open.  Joyce reported Windemere Realty had a very good month again and an article in the Seattle Times promoted Herron Island.  Ruth reported Two Waters is having a concert in the park Sept. 18th.  Bek, from North Bay Mortgage said the Great Pen Contest finale would be October 1st in Belfair at 4:00pm.  Ed is working on land acquisitions for Metro Park.  Marv is busier since moving to his home office.  Barb reported Sound Credit Union will be closed Columbus Day, although employees will use the day for training and a staff meeting. Dennis said the Crime Prevention Task Force is having good participation.  Marty has been active at various events with his snakes.  Claudia, from Sunnycrest Nursery mentioned the “Blues, Brats & Beer” fundraiser for the Civic Center on Oct. 23rd.
