Minutes for Friday, Sept 17, 2004

Place: Horseshoe Lk. Restaurant, 12:00pm by President June Williams

Present: Marv & Myrtle Keizur, Barb Heard, Dennis Taylor, Ruth Bramhall, Ed Taylor, Jeff Harris, Joyce Tovey, Fred Ramsdell, Claude & Claudia Gahard, Chuck West, Ross Bischoff, Terry & Delia Kaas, Todd Rosenbach, Karen Hale.

Guest Speakers: Ron Finney, digital media specialist from North Woods Graphics and the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce Tourism Chairman gave an interesting talk on tourism in our area.  He discussed themes, brands, products and trends.  It was pointed out that tourism is more successful if different localities pull together (Key Peninsula & Gig Harbor).

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Sept. 3rd. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $2710.29

Old Business/Committees:

  1. KP Community Council – Jeff reported the council is working on presenting the by-laws for adoption, and creating the committees that will exist. Next meeting is Sept. 28, 7:00pm at KPMS.
  2. KP Fair –Fred and Ed reported that even with the rain, which lowered attendance, the fair still came out in the black.
  3. Business Economic Development – Ron reported the chamber is working on determining what their true mission is.  They have diverse membership, which includes businesses and school districts.
  4. Key Peninsula Community Plan –Jeff, Claude and Chuck are on this board.  The next meeting will be on Sept 21, 7:00pm at KPMS.  This is an opportunity for public input and the creation of sub-committees.
  5. KP News – Ed reported it is working fine.
  6. Road Clean Up –Karen Hale will call Nancy Lind regarding organizing a clean up day.
  7. Purdy KPBA Welcome Sign – Fred said the sign is set in concrete and he is researching a new location.
  8. Fruit Stand – Dennis reported the signs were not within code. It was MSC (Jeff) to ask the State of Wash. to not grant a lease for the fruit stand next year.
  9. Luncheon Speakers- Dennis passed around a survey for speaker choices.

New Business:     

  1. Nomination Committee – Jeff and Fred volunteered for this committee.

Individual Reports:

Terry reported business is good.  Joyce donated 15 filled backpacks to the Children’s Home Society.  She also said the coupons for Peninsula Market in the KP News has had a good response.  Dennis said neighborhoods are responding well to the Crime Task Force.  Ross mentioned an October Fest celebration in Key Center on Oct. 2.  Chuck will be meeting with the Metro Park board to discuss a skate park.  Todd said the investment business is getting better. Fred said it looks like the lid levy is passing.  Ruth reminded everyone of the upcoming dinner theater in Oct. at LIC.  Claude & Claudia are experimenting with making country wine.  They are looking for a completion date next summer.  Ed said it took 10 months from completion to move into the new fire station due to Pierce County.  Jeff reminded everyone of an open house at Children’s Home Society on Sept. 23rd.  Marv reported action on the building of a new Burger King at Lake Kathryn.  June worked at Volunteer Park painting picnic tables for the Neighbors Make A Difference Day last week.
