Minutes for Friday, October 7, 2005

Place: Homeport Restaurant

Present: President Bek Ashby presiding. Barb Heard, Ruth Bramhall, Dennis Taylor, Joyce Tovey, Ben Thompson, Jeff Harris, Ed Taylor, Jerry Davis, John Biggs, Marty Marcus, Chuck & Lilly West, Michelle Patterson and Debra McElroy.

Meeting called to order at 7:37am

Guest Speakers: None

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Sept. 16th.  Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $2920.89. Future expenses were discussed.  It was MSC (John) to change the donation to Citizens Against Crime from $400 to $200.

Communications: The KPCC is looking for contributions in the way of cash, toys, candy and decorations for their upcoming Halloween party on October 31st.

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Marketing Committee- Bek said that she, Jeff and Dennis have extra brochures available when needed.  The website is in the process of resembling the brochure.  The cost of this will be reduced by 50%, to $375.  The keypeninsula.com website will offer advertising opportunities at half the price for KPBA members.  It was MSC to move the domain name registration responsibility to the treasurer.  The yearly cost is $9.95.
  2. KP Fair – The retreat is tomorrow with Ruth, Barb, Debra, Bek and Michelle representing the KPBA.  Bek asked the membership present if we wanted responsibility as a group regarding participation in the fair.  She said the fair needs to define what the fair is and what their audience is.  Items to be discussed at the fair include carnival quality, date change, theme, family activities, food, music and needing an advertised draw.
  3. KP Comprehensive Plan Committee – Jeff and Chuck reported that the committee is working on land use. The meeting scheduled for Oct. 11, 7:00pm at KPMS is for soliciting requests for rezones.  An area of concern is the land surrounding Key Center.
  4. KP Community Council – The elections are over.  Jeff reported that critical areas ordinance was discussed.  They are trying to inform and solicit views with upcoming meetings.

New Business:

1.       Budget Committee – The committee members include Joyce, Ed, Jeff, Dennis and Bek.  A meeting is scheduled for Oct. 20, 9:00am at Safe Streets.

  1. Nominating Committee – Ruth and Michelle volunteered to be on this committee.
  2. Skate Park – Chuck reported that they are gaining momentum. He is working with the Park District on location and working with the kids at the schools.  A dinner/auction is planned for Nov. 17th with hopes to have the whole community involved.  He is also working on a website.
  3. Metro Park District – Ed reported that since they are looking at setting aside land for future parks, they need interested people to work on land acquisitions for the district.

Individual Reports:

Michelle scheduled a meeting with Clear Channel on Oct. 12, 1:00pm for setting up advertising.  Dennis reported two new hires for the PC Sheriff’s Dept., specifically for neighborhood crime and community resource.  John said an Eagle Scout project developed 5 acres with trails and bridges near the LIC.  Ed said the KP News needs volunteers.  Ben suggested that Key Center could be more prominent if it had a theme.  Jerry said that his business supports 4-H, FHA and Scouts.
