KEY PENINSULA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

Minutes for Friday, October 21, 2005

Place: Blondie’s Restaurant.  Meeting called to order at 12:05pm.

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Barb Heard, Ruth Bramhall, Todd Rosenbach, Dennis Taylor, Jeff Harris, Marv & Myrtle Keizur, Ann Waldo, Marty Marcus, Lois McMahan, Marlies Van Cise, Michelle Patterson, Ira Spector, Joyce Tovey, Mary Graves, Debra McElroy, Ben Thompson, Joe Rhea, Chuck West, Ed Taylor and Jerry Davis.

Guest Speakers: Terry Lee was the guest speaker.  He spoke about shoreline issues, a community plan, Pole Line Rd., Wauna Post Office, DNR property and Devil’s Head property.

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Oct. 7. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $2900.89 

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Marketing Committee- Bek would like the old committee members to set a time to discuss the website.  New people are welcome to attend also.
  2. KP Community Council – Jeff reported the elections produced 5 new members of the Board of Directors and there is a good cross section of people stating their priorities.  A mini retreat is scheduled for Nov. 9th.
  3. KP Comprehensive Plan Committee Report – No report.
  4. KP Community Fair – Mary said their retreat re-examined what appears to be missing from the fair.  The mission statement and date is changing.  There was great representation from the participating organizations.  Bek said the KPBA would have a more defined and active role in the fair.
  5. Gig Harbor Committee Reports – Tourism Committee-No report. Economic Development Committee-Ed said they are working on attracting businesses to G.H. and the K.P.
  6. Road Clean Up – The next scheduled date is November 5th; 8:00am at Home Park.

New Business:

  1. Nominating Committee – Ruth and Michelle will be on this committee.  Nominations will be presented at the Nov. 4th meeting.
  2. Annual Dinner – Todd will be on this committee.
  3. Christmas Tree Lighting – Chuck West is organizing.  There will be a work party on Saturday, Dec. 3rd to decorate the tree.  Chuck said this is the last year for Mary & Fred Ramsdell to play Mr. & Mrs. Claus.  Bek & Ruth will take care of cookies & cider; Chuck will handle the lights and music.  There will be an ad in the KP News for the KPBA.

 Individual Reports:

Lois is having a social at Miracle Ranch on Nov. 17th.  She also said any sandwich board signs removed from Hwy 302 are at DOT yard in Belfair. Dennis gave an update on the sheriff’s dept. with the hiring of a community resources person (non-criminal) and a policing deputy to be hired in Jan.  Chuck said there is an opportunity to voice your opinion at the next Planning Board meeting on Oct. 26th.  Todd has good rates on 5-yr bonds.  Jeff wants speaker ideas for our annual dinner.  Ira distributed “Faucet Beanies” for non anti-siphon hose faucets.  Michelle said Key Bank has a low first mtg. refi promotion. Ruth said Minter School is starting a reading program.  Marlies distributed flyers advertising great rates & bonuses for an Alaska cruise.  The LIC has a Halloween party planned for Oct. 29th.  Bek announced the winners of the Pen Contest.  Terry is happy with the sheriff coverage and he’s working on a drug paraphernalia ordinance.
