KEY PENINSULA BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

Minutes for Friday, Oct 1, 2004

Place: Homeport Restaurant

Present: Barb Heard, Dennis Taylor, Ruth Bramhall, Joyce Tovey, Delia Kaas, Bek Ashby, Marty Marcus, LuLu and Mark Jones.

Guest Speakers: None

Secretary’s Report/Corres: A quorum was not present.  Approval of the minutes was deferred until the next meeting.   Treasurer’s Report: No report.

Old Business/Committees:

  1. KP Community Council – Dennis & Joyce reported that not much was accomplished the last meeting since a quorum was not present. They are considering changing their usual meeting time (4th Tuesday) to another day.
  2. KP. Fair –No report.  Next meeting is scheduled for October 5th.
  3. Business Economic Development – No report.
  4. Key Peninsula Community Plan –Joyce attended the last meeting.  She said the comments were directed by the county and didn’t know how much input the board would have. Four reps were chosen from the KP Community Council.
  5. Road Clean Up –No report.
  6. Purdy KPBA Welcome Sign – No report.
  7. Fruit Stand – Dennis will lobby the state to not renew their license.
  8. Luncheon Speakers- Dennis distributed a Speaker List Recommendation.  He noted that elected officials consisted of 8 of the last 11 speakers.  We discussed not having candidates campaign, but rather give reports after they’re elected.  We want to focus on speakers that can address business issues.
  9. Nomination Committee – No report.

New Business:     

  1. Annual Dinner – Tentative date is set for MLK holiday in 2005.  Dennis will get a speaker.

Individual Reports:

Joyce has an opening in her Windermere Realty office.  Her entire staff donated 15 backpacks to the Children’s Home Society.  Marty was involved in a kick off for the schools at the Pacific Science Center with the Herpetological Society.  Mark Jones, owner of Home Laundromat, will be opening a hamburger stand next to the Laundromat.  The LIC, combined with The Homeport Restaurant is having a Christmas Gift Party on Dec. 19th.  Toy donations are welcome.  The LIC is also talking about having First Annual Boat Lighting for the holidays.  Bek is looking forward to the Great Pen Party this afternoon.  Ruth said the Wauna Fire Station is now occupied.  There will be an open house in Nov.  The new fire engines have foam.  The Dinner Theater is the next 3 weekends. John mentioned the Beer, Brats & Blues celebration at the Civic Center on Oct. 23rd.  He also said the Civic Center may have a bus to Leavenworth for the Christmas lights.  New Year’s Eve Dance by the LIC?  Maybe.  John also said his practice is limited to school issues.  Delia is making signs for a sign shop.  Dennis will give us updates on Crime Prevention.
