Minutes for Friday, November 17, 2006

 

Place: Blondie’s Restaurant

Present: President Bek Ashby presiding. Lynn Marshall, Kurt Self, Barb Heard, Lois MacMahan, Marlise Van Cise, Joe Rhea, Marv Keizur, Myrtle Keizur, Ruth Bramhall, Dennis Taylor, Claude Gahard, Marty Marcus, Genevieve Ellis, Tara Froode, Dennis Taylor, Joyce Tovey,  Jud Morris, Chuck West , Jeff Harris, and Ed Taylor.

 

Meeting called to order at 12:00 pm.

 

Guest Speakers: Mike Kruger, Key Peninsula Community Plan

 

Mike Kruger presented the Key Peninsula Community Planning Board’s extensive progress in developing a comprehensive plan for the Key Peninsula. The board consists of 15 members representing many of the diverse interests and viewpoints present in the community. The group has addressed a variety of topics relating to growth and land use. Upon completion of the group’s work, a Land Use Advisory Commission will be formed.

 

Community members are encouraged to attend the meetings. Upcoming meetings include:

 

December 6th,  7pm at the Key Peninsula Library. This meeting will focus on signage.

 

December 9th, 9:00 am to 3:00pm at the Key Peninsula Civic Center.  This Saturday Workshop will focus on ways to encourage economic development in the community through design treatments, such as the development and enhancement of a community theme.

 

Secretary’s Report:

It was MSC to approve the minutes from November 3, 2006.

 

Treasurers Report:

No changes from the 11/03/2006 meeting.

Key Peninsula Little League:   Kurt Self, President of the Key Peninsula Little League thanked community members for their support, and encouraged continued involvement through sponsorship, donations, and active participation. Business/Committees:

Nomination Committee: Present nominees include: Jud Morris as President, Claudia Loy as Vice President, Laurie Ellis as Treasurer, Todd Rosenbach as Secretary. Additional nominees are welcome.

 

Annual Dinner: The dinner is scheduled for Monday, January 22, 2006 and will be held at Blondie’s. Silent auction items are encouraged from members of the association. Marlise Van Cise will assist with ticket sales.

 

Christmas Tree Lighting: The tree lighting begins at 4:00 on Sunday, December 3, 2006. Volunteers should be there at 3:30 pm to set up. Tara Froode is the contact for the event.

Dr. Olsson will be decorating the tree on Friday afternoon if anyone would like to assist.

 

Key Peninsula Community Council: The council is in the process of prioritizing efforts for the coming year.

 

Key Peninsula Community Fair:  The fair board is getting an early start. Friends of the Fair can make donations now, assisting the fair in the interim financing of ongoing costs prior to the upcoming fundraising campaigns. A bigger and better carnival, including a Ferris Wheel, has been contracted. Planning for an enhanced Tractor Pull is under way.

 

Individual Reports:

 

Bek Ashby: North Bay Mortgage’s newsletter highlighted KP Fair people on the North Bay Fire Truck. The Puyallup office was damaged in the first storm. Remember that Santa will be visiting North Bay’s Belfair office in December!

 

Ed Taylor: Skate Night at the Civic Center has gone to split sessions in order to accommodate different age groups. Additional employees and volunteers are needed.

 

Barb Heard: Sound is celebrating the Apple Cup, and after a Husky win, has good reason to do so!

 

Lois MacMahan: Contact Lois if you would like to receive weekly legislative updates via e mail.

 

Marlise Van Cise: There are some great specials available to warm and sunny destinations.

 

Joe Rhea: deferred

 

Kurt Self: Thanks to everyone for their continued support of the Little League.

 

Ruth Bramhall: See fair notes. Volunteers and board members are needed.

 

Dennis Taylor: Please contact Dennis if you would like to take over scheduling speakers. Speakers are presently scheduled through March.

 

Marty Marcus: Animals are less active given the weather. Presently participating in a few outreach programs.

 

Marv Keizur: Mark your calendars for the Lions’ Citizen of the Year Dinner, taking place on March 10th.  Nominees may be directed to Marv Keizur, P.O. BOX 63, Vaughn, WA 98394.

 

Myrtle Keizur: deferred

 

Genevieve Ellis: Busy with classes, focusing on changes in the tax laws, etc.

           

Claude Gahard: Storm damage information is being collected by the county. Business has slowed at the winery.

 

Joyce Tovey:  Business has slowed, which is typical for this time of year. Two new agents have joined the office.

 

Tara Froode: Ravensara features holiday gift baskets that can be customized to suit your tastes.

 

Jeff Harris: Safe Streets will soon be interviewing for a full time position.

 

Lynn Marshall: Blondie’s is offering several incentives, including a monthly drawing for a free dinner for 4 offered to frequent diners. Lynn is optimistic regarding progress that has been made addressing signage. Look for upcoming menu changes as well as features on local products, such as locally produced wines.

 

Jud Morris: Children’s Home Society is busy with their annual holiday sponsorship of local families in need.

 

Chuck West: Thanks to Kurt and the Key Peninsula Little League. Progress is being made on the Skate Park to be constructed at Volunteer Park.
