Minutes for Friday, May 6, 2005

Place: Homeport Restaurant

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Barb Heard, Ruth Bramhall, Todd Rosenbach, Dennis Taylor, Joyce Tovey, Debra McElroy, Ed Taylor, Jeff Harris, John Biggs, Marty Marcus, Eric Nelsen, Terry & Delia Kaas, Marj Hurley, Dick Van Cise, Kerry Kernan.

Meeting called to order at 7:30am

Guest Speakers: Dick Van Cise, who is on the Boating Advisory Commission for Pierce County talked about personal watercraft usage.

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from April 15th. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $4218.73.

Communications: None

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Marketing Committee- Bek reported on an upcoming meeting with Northwood Graphics to discuss visitor brochures and websites and get a proposal for the cost.
  2. KP Fair – Ruth reported raffle tickets are now available to sell with emphasis on getting the stubs back to the original person.  It was suggested to share a booth with the KP Council.
  3. KP Comprehensive Plan Committee – Jeff reported on RAC and RNC classifications.  Comments on the environment, economic development and land use need to be given to Mike Kruger.
  4. KP Community Council – The committees are now coming forward with the issues to address.  There is a strong interest in creating a youth council by next fall.
  5. Business/Economic Development Committee –A committee was formed to develop a position on land use and economic development. Members include: Joyce, Debra, Terry and Ed is chairman.
  6. Livable Community Fair – A board/sign was created for the KPBA booth.
  7. KPBA Scholarship – Barb will present the scholarships on May 18th with Todd as a backup.

New Business: None

Individual Reports:

Kerry Kernan, from the Gig Harbor Directory presented information pertaining to having the KPBA and member businesses representing themselves with a section in the directory.  The deadline is September.  Joyce, Ed and Todd all agreed they are busy and business is good.  John mentioned the LIC upcoming breakfast and Marj said the Sportmens Club breakfast was a success. Barb reported on a 9 month CD special at 3.50% APY.  Eric said a burn ban would probably start around June 28th and they are gearing up for wild land fires. The fire dept. will soon have a website and they are working with PC Sheriff’s on water patrol training.  Dennis mentioned Fox Island’s crime watch system.  Bek’s annual pen contest has started again.
