Minutes for Friday, May 20, 2005

Place: Blondie’s Restaurant

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Barb Heard, Ruth Bramhall, Todd Rosenbach, Dennis Taylor, Joyce Tovey, Debra McElroy, Ed Taylor, Jeff Harris, Terry & Delia Kaas, Marv & Myrtle Keizur, Ann Waldo, Chuck West, June Williams, Kip Bonds, Leif Hansen, Lois McMahan, Scott Gallacher, Kat Varkevisser, Michelle Patterson, and Maudie Lucas (professional counseling).

Meeting called to order at 12:06pm.

Guest Speakers: Russ Holster, from RS Enterprises, manages the KPBA website.  He stressed the importance of all business advertising leading to that business’s website.

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from May 6th. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $4218.73.

Communications: None

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Marketing Committee- Lois had an example of the KPBA membership certificates.  Jeff reported that the brochures should be ready by the 4th of July.  It was MSC to sign an agreement with Northwoods Graphics to print and produce the brochure with a sliding scale to cover the additional $700 cost.
  2. KP Fair – Ruth reported raffle tickets are now available to sell.
  3. KP Comprehensive Plan Committee – No report.
  4. KP Community Council – Jeff reported there are seven positions available for the upcoming Sept. 17 elections.  Applications are due by August 12th.
  5. Business/Economic Development Committee –No report.
  6. KPBA Scholarship – Todd presented the scholarships to Kevin Burkart & Robert Collamore.
  7. JOBS Committee – Ed presented a first draft.  It was MSC to adopt the first draft of JOBS position paper.  The information needs to get into the county planning.
  8. White Paper on business barriers on the Key Peninsula – Ed reported that Mike Kruger needs a report on specific business barriers in the last 20 years by June 1st.  Volunteers are needed. E-mail information to Joyce Tovey.

New Business:

1.       Brian Tovey needs volunteers to help evaluate Peninsula High School Senior Project presentations.  The date is June 2nd, from 10:40am to 2:00pm.  Contact him at: ToveyB@Peninsula.wednet.edu.

 Individual Reports:

Michelle and Kat from Key Bank presented information on recent counterfeiting on the Key Peninsula.  June is stepping out of the KPBA.  Lois is starting her race for the Senate.  Scott reported on upcoming events for the KP Parks.  Todd makes house calls.  Leif reported that Camp Seymour offers other activities beyond regular camping.  Chuck reported the GH & KP Fire Departments are consolidating functions (maintenance & public education).  He is also starting a Key Peninsula Skate Park as a memorial to his son.  He needs community involvement to get grants and help with fundraisers.  Kip said Peninsula Market has some great sales planned for June.  Ruth reported Two Waters Arts has upcoming classes.  Bek said North Bay Mtg. Has opened another office in Grays Harbor.
