Minutes for Friday, March 2, 2007

 

Place: Homeport Restaurant

Present: Vice President Claudia Loy presiding. Barb Heard, Ruth Bramhall, Marty Marcus, Laurie Ellis, Ross Bischoff, Bret Nebel, Sheryl Mirenta, Claude Gahard, Rob Boll and Chuck West. 

Meeting called to order at 7:35am.  Introductions were made.

Guest Speakers: None

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from February 16, 2007.

Treasurers Report: Balance on hand is $6398.32. A profit & loss statement was distributed.  It was MSC to have an exhibitor table at the KP Livable Community Fair on May 12th.  Bret Nebel will chair the committee for our exhibitor table.  It was MSC to pay the $15.00 exhibitor table fee.  Laurie reported that Jud is working with the KP News about the late fee that was previously charged to the KPBA.

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Scholarship Committee – Barb will contact committee members for setting up a meeting time.
  2. Road Clean Up – Ruth will talk to Amy from Key Bank to see if she is interested in being the person that picks up the equipment needed for a road clean up.  Volunteers are still needed.
  3. Annual Dinner – Ruth reported the attendance was 75 people.

New Business:

  1. Mike Boyle – Mike Boyle from North Bay Mortgage will be the guest speaker for April’s meeting, focusing on marketing and the possibility of future workshops.  A motion made by Claude Gahard to form two committees, agriculture and tourist based and reporting to the board once a month was MSC.  Discussion included the need for a commercial kitchen on the peninsula and the possibility of a mobile dairy/creamery.  Claude would like to see a bakery in the area and is willing to work on grants to obtain these assets.  Claude stressed the importance of tourism with our numerous parks and trails.  He suggested getting direction from Mike on these two areas.
  2. KP Fair – Ruth reported that Tom Ashley is back as treasurer.  The headliner band for Saturday night is reserved.  The tractor exhibit will be on the main fair grounds and the horse whisperer wants to come back.
  3. KP Council – No report.
  4. KP Planning – Chuck reported that the next meeting is March 7 to discuss community character and the importance this has in the commercial area – business leaders should attend.  Discussion also included retirement facilities on the Key Peninsula.

Individual Reports:

Laurie is busy at Ellis Accounting with taxes.  Ruth reminded everyone of the upcoming Citizen of the Year Dinner on March 10.  Ross reported the KP Parks has a new commissioner and gave some updated information on the 360 acres.  Claude has a monthly drawing at his winery with proceeds going to a senior center fund.  Rob is making progress on his new winery because he has an existing building.  Bret is working on a new product line of air purification.  Barb reported high yield checking and money market accounts are planned to start in April.  Chuck hopes to have the skate park completed by this summer.  He said the fire department is hiring more people and the Key Center station is getting a new flagpole.  Sheryl is doing less house calls.  Marty is dealing with the legislators on exotic animal guidelines.  Claudia said the Flavor of Fall would be back in Oct.
