Communications:

Presentation:

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Scholarship Committee - Barb and Todd attended the ceremony and presented the scholarship awards to Jessica Beal and Jette Hooper.
  2. KPBA Brochures – Jud had a bid from North Woods Graphics of $1700 for 3000 each.  Discussion ensued regarding the lack of time to get new printings with new ads for availability at the KP Fair (July 12-15).  It was decided that there would be enough brochures for the KP Fair if everyone with extra brochures would bring them to the next KPBA meeting and give to Jud or Todd.  More discussion and bids for reprinting the brochures is needed before a final decision is made.
  3. KP Fair – Bek reported the fair is in the Kitsap Visitors Guide.  Bek will get the KPBA booth set up, sign up sheet and see who else wants to share the space.  Bek will use the North Bay Mortgage tent and provide a small table.  Jud has the banner and the KPBA information tripod. Volunteers are needed to man the booth during the fair.
  4. Fire District Commissioners – Jud reported on the letters sent to the Gateway and the KP News.  Discussion ensued regarding the recall process.  It was MSC (1-opposed, Ed Taylor) that the KPBA remain neutral on the recall process.
  5. Luncheon Meetings – Jud led a discussion on the quality and length of introductions and individual reports at the noon meetings.  It was decided to begin with name introductions, speaker, individual reports with a one minute guideline and end with a shorter business discussion.  Delay bringing the speaker lunch until after they are done talking.
  6. KP Community Plan – Chuck reported that the plan is going before the Pierce County Council on August 6th.  The next part will be implementation.

New Business:

Livable Key 2020 – Dennis Taylor is heading up this pilot project for the preservation and protection of this area.  He is forming an advisory committee and a forum to engage citizens to get involved is planned.  Dennis submitted a donation request for $300.  Bek explained the history of our donation process. Jud will take copies of the literature for member to read and a vote will be taken at the next breakfast meeting.

KP News – Ed reported the Webmaster is moving and a volunteer (10 hrs per month) is needed to fill this position.  He said the tabloid for the KP Fair would be produced by the KP News instead of the Gateway.  Ed also reported that the publishing board has been working on a strategic plan and to expect a future announcement.

Individual Reports:

Jud attended varsity letter awards ceremony for students involved in community services and said that Peninsula High School had a strong showing and came in 2nd for the number of awards.

Joe reported on the traffic problems affecting the businesses during the Ren Fair in August.  He said that Lake Kathryn would not allow use of their area for parking this year.

Sheryl is busy at KC Computer Repair.

Todd helped evaluate senior projects at PHS and said he saw the highest quality ever this year.

Marty will have a booth at the KP Fair.

Bek said new loan officers were hired at North Bay Mortgage and their fire truck would not be available for the KP Fair this year.

Barb reported on great certificate rates at Sound Credit Union.

Chuck said the Fire Dept. has the new medic unit now in service.  He is concerned about the dry May and they have had above normal the amount of calls.  The old 1917 fire truck is in the paint shop.  The November ballot will include a levy and a vote for a 5-member commissioners board.

Ed is upgrading mattresses and high speed Internet at the WestWynd Motel.  Used mattresses are donated to charitable organizations.
