Minutes for Friday, January 7, 2005

Place: Homeport Restaurant

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Barb Heard, Dennis Taylor, Ruth Bramhall, Fred Ramsdell, Ed Taylor, Marv & Myrtle Keizur, Debra McElroy, Todd Rosenbach, Joyce Tovey, Jeff Harris, John Biggs, June Williams and Rodika Tollefson from the Key Peninsula News.

Meeting called to order at 7:35am.

Guest Speakers: None

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Dec. 17th. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $3972.81. It was MSC (Jeff) to reimburse Dennis Taylor $32.46 for Christmas lights.  Other expenses were $37.00 for postage stamps.

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Membership Committee – Dennis distributed an example of a new KPBA Membership Application.  It was MSC (Jeff) to approve the format as amended.
  2. Marketing Committee – Bek said we need a brochure, need to enhance our website and utilize the media (Gateway) more.  Ed led a discussion on the need for an updated Destination Key Peninsula brochure and suggested different formats.  Volunteers are needed and being solicited for this committee.  Once formed, professional input for layout will be needed.
  3. Annual Dinner – Ruth reported 88 invitations were sent out.  The date is January 17th, 6:00pm at Camp Seymour.
  4. Key Peninsula Fair – Fred reported there would be a new carnival.  An office is shared with the KP Community Council in Key Center.
  5. KP Comprehensive Plan Committee – Jeff reported the need for stronger representation by businesses because numerous issues will affect the business community.
  6. KP Community Council – Jeff reported they would be proposing to develop and adopt a strategic plan.
  7. Business/Economic Development Committee – No report.
  8. Road Clean Up – The date is scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2005 at 8:00am at Home Park.  Volunteers are needed. If desired, breakfast afterwards at Homeport Restaurant.
  9. PHS Senior Projects – Evaluators are needed on January 20th, 2005 at 10:45am.  Contact Brian Tovey at toveyb@peninsula.wednet.edu to register.

New Business: None 

Individual Reports:

Fred reported the fire department is staffed with quality people and the water problems at the Home Fire Station have greatly improved.  Ruth reported a good response for a local drive collecting items for tsunami relief.  Ed reported on the status of the 360-acre regional park at the north end of the Key Peninsula. Joyce said the highest priced home ($4.3 million) sold in Pierce County last year was located in Lakebay.  June said Key Bank had a 2 for 1 donation for tsunami relief.  Their CEO is now on the Federal Reserve.  Marv said his business has increased since obtaining a Gig Harbor address. Barb said Sound Credit Union has certificate promotions.  Rodika said the KP News adopted a budget this year and are developing strategies for advertising.  Debra said business is little right now, which is normal.  Dennis said our next guest speaker would be helpful with food issues for our local fairs.  Todd reminded everyone that it is IRA season and contribution amounts are going up.  Bek said some of their give away pens had the wrong phone number.
