Minutes for Friday, January 6, 2006

Place:  Homeport Restaurant. 

Present: Bek Ashby presiding.  Marty Marcus, Ruth Bramhall, Todd Rosenbach, Dennis Taylor, Ross Bischoff, Jeff Harris, Chuck West, John Biggs,  Michelle Patterson, Ed Taylor, Barb Heard, Debra McElroy, Scott Gallacher.

Guest Speaker:  None.

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Dec. 16th.

Treasurer’s Report:  End of the year balance is $4,163.85.  Including a $2,000 from the Key Pen Fair.  It was MSC to approve Peninsula Hawks Scholarships for 2006, 2 @ $500 each.

Individual Reports:

Marty said the Computer Shop in Key Center is under new ownership; Cheryl Marenta is the new owner.  Also, he has a ‘slug eating’ lizard from Australia.  Dennis gave an update on upcoming guest speakers they will be: Scott Gallacher from K.P. Metro Parks, Grant Glen – Kitsap Visitors Bureau, and Derek Kilmer.  Todd & Ruth said the finishing touches are being done for the KPBA Annual Dinner- final day to buy tickets is today.  Jeff had a Planning Commission update: shoreline requirements to change March 1st.  Debra updated on Gig Harbor Chamber Meeting – Pat Lantz not up to speed on community issues.  Scott said the next K.P. Parks Dept. meeting will be Wednesday January 18th.  He also mentioned the Parks Dept. Basketball Program – K-3rd & starting an Adult Men’s League.  Chuck said Memorial Skate Park planning is coming along, continuing with grant writing.  He also said the K.P. Fire Department is in process of acquiring a Fire Boat.  John said the L.I.C. New Year’s Eve party had 30-40 in attendance, but had room for 100 or more.  Todd said December was busy.  Also, IRA’s for clients over 50 years old will get a bonus.  Barb said several new products and services are now being offered at Sound, some of the new products/services are shared branching, Visa gift cards, E-statements and check copies online.  Debra is advertising with postcards offered other members to share ad no charge for a small ad on postcard.  Ed was sick over the New Year holiday.  Dennis announced next meeting for community reader board is January 11th at 2pm at his office.  Ross went to a 2 day conference on horticulture at Western Washington University.  Bek said North Bay Mortgage offers financing on manufactured homes and 100% financing on rental properties.  Also, North Bay Mortgage is expanding to Westport, Montesano and coming soon to Puyallup.  Jeff just got back from Peru, lots of pictures to share.

Annual Dinner: Todd and Ruth said they are putting the finishing touches in place for the dinner.

K.P. FairSponsorship meeting will be Tuesday 10th at 4pm, prior to K.P. Fair meeting.  This year will be a bigger and better carnival.  KPBA Members will receive a $25 discount on booth fee.  Entry fee will be reduced from $4 to $1.  Next year the Fair will offer ‘Teen/Youth Night’ with Free Fair admittance on Thursday, carnival will be open that night but will charge.  A trailer has been donated to be utilized at the Fair.
