Minutes for Friday, January 5, 2007

 

Place: Homeport Restaurant

Present: Vice President Claudia Loy presiding. Barb Heard, Ruth Bramhall, Marty Marcus, Tara Froode, Laurie Ellis, Joyce Tovey, John Carlson, Claude Gahard, Ross Bischoff, Joe Rhea, Scott Gallacher, Mike Babauta, Bek Ashby and Todd Rosenbach.

Meeting called to order.  Introductions were made.

Guest Speakers: None

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the amended minutes from December 1, 2006. The amendments included: Laurie Ellis is the sole treasurer and the park created an addendum instead of a change on the KP Fair contract.

Treasurers Report: Balance on hand is $3611.24 per Laurie Ellis. There were no bills to approve.  Laurie distributed the 2006 Budget as of Dec. 31, 2006.

Communications:

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Annual Dinner – January 22, 6:00pm at Blondies.  It was suggested to bring someone who is not a member and take the opportunity to network.  Silent auctions items are welcomed and can be brought that evening.  Todd is working on an agenda.
  2. Tree Decorations – Tara will call Chuck about taking down the decorations.
  3. Comprehensive Plan Committee – Per Tara, the sign committee created a sub committee that will work on creating sign standards to present to the county council.  The charette had a low attendance.  Next meeting is scheduled for January 17th at the KC Library.
  4. KC Community Council – No report.
  5. KP Fair – Ruth reported that the Executive Committee is down to 2 people with the resignation of Chet Young.  A treasurer and grounds set up person are needed.

New Business:

  1. Road Clean Up – Looking for a volunteer to head up this quarterly project.  Participation has dwindled, new enthusiasm is needed.
  2. Website/Marketing/Membership – In the past, Dennis was in charge of the website & got the membership information to Russ.  Bek will work with Laurie and Russ to keep membership names and information updated on our website.  Laurie will send out yearly dues statements.
  3. Welcome Sign/Purdy – Tara reported a sign design was in the charette and would be adopted within the next year.  She will give updates.

Individual Reports:

Claude emphasized the importance of signs and advertising and said that Pierce County is very much in favor of agriculture.  Ross is fighting to get an agricultural permit.  A consultant was suggested.  Scott reported a survey for needs assessment was going out to the commissioners, who are volunteers and not paid.  Mike is the new Community Mobilization Specialist with Safe Streets.  Bek is on a committee for Kitsap Transit, which is looking at a passenger only ferry from Port Orchard to Seattle.  Tara is looking for volunteers to help her on a kiosk and welcome sign committee.  Laurie said her new location, next to the closed Brookside Restaurant is and excellent spot.  Todd will be at his new office in Key Center by January 22nd.  Barb reported land loans are now available at Sound Credit Union.  Marty had problems keeping the animals warm during the power outage.  Claudia’s SunnyCrest Nursery will be closed for 10 days.  Ruth attends the fire commissioners meetings.  Joyce reported her phones not working, but the fax machine is.  John has owned Carlson Building Construction since 1979 and focuses on building spec homes now.
