Minutes for Friday, January 21, 2005

Place: Blondie’s Bar & Grill Restaurant

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Barb Heard, Dennis Taylor, Ruth Bramhall, Ed Taylor, Marv & Myrtle Keizur, Todd Rosenbach, Joyce Tovey, Jeff Harris, John Biggs, Lois McMahan, Leslie Hicks, Trixie Schick, Ann Waldo, Marty Marcus, Joe Rhea, Marlies Van Cise, Michael Misner, Phil Bauer, Sheryl Mirenta, Lori Whaley & Karen Hale.

Meeting called to order at 12:00pm.

Certificates of Appreciation were given to Barb Heard & Marv Keizur. Marv served as Treasurer for the KPBA for the past 16 years.

Guest Speakers: Kim Hoffmann, Safety Specialist from the Pierce County Health Dept. talked about food vendors and temporary events.  She mentioned the possibility of having a community class at the Civic Center for interested people to obtain their food handlers permit.

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Jan. 7th. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $5393.81. It was MSC to approve the budget for 2005. 

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Membership Committee – Jeff passed around a list for interested members to sign up to help with membership recruitment
  2. Marketing Committee – This committee is closely related to the Membership Committee.
  3. Annual Dinner – Ruth and Todd reported a successful dinner, despite the weather and parking issues.
  4. Key Peninsula Fair – Ed reported the carnival is now signed up.
  5. KP Comprehensive Plan Committee – Jeff reported that economic development and land use are personal reasons to get involved.  KPBA members can make an impact on future decisions.
  6. KP Community Council – Joyce said an upcoming working session is scheduled for Feb. She emphasized that the correct meeting time is the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm at KPMS.
  7. Business/Economic Development Committee – No report.
  8. Road Clean Up – The date is scheduled for Saturday, January 22, 2005 at 8:00am at Home Park. 

New Business:

1.       Speakers – Dennis said Lt. Larry Bauer from the PC Sheriff’s Dept. would speak in Feb.  Communities

In Schools is scheduled for March.  Let Bek or Dennis know of any suggestions for upcoming speakers.

Individual Reports:

Sheryl from KC Computer said they offer classes and are looking for a larger place.  Marlies owns Travel House, Inc. travel agency.  Leslie said KC Auto Repair staff participates in continuing education.  Trixie from Home Feed & Grocery said she is open from 9am-10pm, 7 days a week. Ruth said the KP Community Livable Fair is scheduled for May 7th. There will be children’s activities and outside food vendors. Jeff urged everyone to vote in upcoming school levy.  Phil Bauer said the Civic Center is concerned about insurance costs and property taxes. The Two Waters Spring Fling is scheduled for Feb 26.  Karen from the KP News said more advertising accounts are coming from off the peninsula.
