Minutes for Friday, February 4, 2005

Place: Homeport Restaurant

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Barb Heard, Dennis Taylor, Ruth Bramhall, Ed Taylor, Marv Keizur, Todd Rosenbach, Joyce Tovey, Jeff Harris, Marty Marcus, Al Twidt, Eric Nelsen, Debra McElroy, June Williams and Claudia Loy.

Meeting called to order at 7:30 am.

Guest Speakers: None

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Jan. 21st. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $4956.38. It was MSC to approve the treasurer’s report.  It was MSC to approve the $30.00 monthly fee to RS Enterprises for website management for this month, and the standard payment for the remainder of 2005 for this service. 

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Blondie’s – The luncheon meetings will be moved into the main restaurant area with the use of screens for privacy.
  2. Marketing Committee – Members are Jeff Harris, Mike Misner, Lois McMahan & Bek Ashby.  Jeff is working on recruiting KPBA members and a brochure for the Key Peninsula-more volunteers are needed. Mike is working in the educational area, possibly planning a small business workshop.  Lois is working on recognition that can be displayed in area businesses.  Bek is working on the website.  A good example is northmasonchamber.com.  Dennis Taylor is also sending out KPBA applications & letters to area businesses.
  3. Key Peninsula Fair – Ruth reported the fair layout is being improved.
  4. KP Comprehensive Plan Committee – Jeff commented and advised the importance of being aware of the issues.
  5. KP Community Council – Joyce reported on a planned workshop tomorrow. She emphasized that the correct meeting time is the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm at KPMS.
  6. Business/Economic Development Committee – June reported that the meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of the month at noon.
  7. Road Clean Up – Barb reported a good clean up with the next scheduled day sometime in May.
  8. Speakers – Dennis distributed an updated speaker list.  There was discussion about starting a regular after hour’s event at individual businesses. 

New Business:

1.       KP Metro Park District – Ed encouraged the public to attend the meetings and volunteer. He said the meeting times are changing without public knowledge.  There was discussion regarding the Civic Center being under the KP Metro Park District or the KP Parks and Recreation.

2.       Scholarship Committee – Barb, Al and Todd volunteered for this committee.

Individual Reports:

Al reminded everyone that the KP Lutheran Church has a building with a commercial kitchen available for events.  Eric said the KP Fire Dept. has positions open, the water well problems at the Home station are fixed, outside burning will be banned in 2006, and a Fire Commissioner position is opening up. Marv reminded everyone of the upcoming Citizen of the Year banquet scheduled for March 5th.  Dennis reported that a new club has been formed at the high school for the prevention of meth use. Marty is out of hibernation with an upcoming busy schedule.  Bek said North Bay Mortgage has increased their staff.
