Minutes for Friday, February 3, 2006

Place: The Home Port Restaurant. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 am.

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Todd Davis, Marty Marcus, Jeff Harris, Joyce Tovey, Dennis Taylor, Claudia Loy, Debra McElroy, Barbara Heard, and Tara

Froode.

Secretary’s Report: It was MSC to approve the 01/20/06 meeting minutes.

Treasurer’s Report: It was MSC to pay the following outstanding obligations:

Key Peninsula Little League Sponsorship for 2006         $550

K.P. Sustainable Communities Fair                                   $  25                          

Income for the month included:

Dues:                                                  $1410.00 (approx. ½ of anticipated dues)

Annual Dinner:                                   $1597.00

The current balance is $5120.09.

Business/Committee Reports:

  1. Key Peninsula Little League: Todd Davis shared information regarding sponsorship, signage, and volunteer opportunities. Approximately 350 children participate on about 30 teams annually. The cost per player is 90.00. Approximately $2400 worth of scholarships are needed on an annual basis. The Annual Breakfast is March 25, 2006. Opening Day is April 1.
  2. Marketing: The committee is working to develop a quality website with the flexibility to economically meet the changing needs of the organization. Committee members are expanding the search for input and/or solution providers.
  3. Community Sign/Reader Board: The committee has held one meeting relating to the proposed reader board to be placed on the Purdy Spit. Both the county and the state have been contacted regarding permits and potential approval.
  4. Speakers: The Legislative Update is proposed for May. Each representative will be given 10 minutes to present an update on legislative business.
  5. KP Fair: Sponsorship schedule is awaiting approval. Bek Ashby shared the proposed levels and sponsor benefits at each level. The Agri-Vision concept is growing and expanding. Mary and Bek are working on the graphics for the fair sponsor flyer.
  6. Scholarship Committee: Barb Heard will be chairing the committee. Tara, Bek, and Todd R. volunteered to participate. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded.
  7. Community Council: Several topics have been covered relating to land use. George Patton from Pierce County’s Bus Plus recently presented information relating to the service, its history on the Peninsula, current ridership statistics and services, and the service’s future on the Peninsula. Upcoming topics include logging, and green belts on the Peninsula.

Individual Reports: Barb reported Sound Credit Union had recently completed their Quality Service Review. Tara shared Ravensara’s focus on organic products and gift baskets tailored to meet your needs. Bek updated everyone on North Bay’s adventures in Westport, participation in a business fair in Aberdeen, the opening of the Puyallup office. Claudia shared that spring has arrived at Sunnycrest. Joyce stated the past 2 weeks had been a little slower, but it had been a good January overall. Jeff has a new dog keeping him busy. Ruth gave a report on Shorty’s adventures, reminded everyone of Two Water’s Spring Fling in April, and gave an update on the CIS tutoring program.
