Minutes for Friday, February 18, 2005

Place: Blondie’s Restaurant

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Barb Heard, Ruth Bramhall, Marv & Myrtle Keizur, Todd Rosenbach, Jeff Harris, Marty Marcus & Ann Waldo, Al & Erlene Twidt, Eric Nelsen, Lois McMahan, Fred & Mary Ramsdell, Kip Bonds, Marlies Van Cise, Barbara Hawkins, Jerry Schick, & Sue Dircks

Meeting called to order at 12:05pm

Guest Speakers: Lt. Larry Bauer from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Dept. was the guest speaker. He spoke about the current 24/7 coverage, usually two people per shift, for a population of 52,000. Wait time was still probable, however phone calls to the sheriff’s department (or 911) is still emphasized.

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Feb. 4th. Treasurer’s Report: No report.

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Marketing Committee- The next meeting is scheduled for March 1st, 6:30pm in Gig Harbor at North Bay Mortgage.  Jeff needs a copy of an old Destination Key Peninsula brochure. Bek will send a copy of the logo to Lois & Jeff.  Bek suggested a booth at the KP Fair promoting the KPBA & individual businesses.  Bek also said the committee wants to start ongoing traditions and develop some type of annual recognition for individual businesses.
  2. KP Fair – Ruth reported improvements and Barb said there would be more emphasis on pre-sale carnival tickets.
  3. KP Comprehensive Plan Committee – Jeff reported on the environmental sub committee’s concern regarding the 2006 outdoor burn ban.
  4. KP Community Council – Jeff said the committee is developing a strategic plan.
  5. Business/Economic Development Committee –No report.
  6. Road Clean Up – Next scheduled day would be sometime in May.

New Business: No report.

Individual Reports:

Barb reported on some technical changes at sound Credit Union. Erlene said I.M. PACT provides speaker opportunities for businesses. Ann reported Bay Shore Garden Club would be at the KP Livable Fair. Marty’s snake showing activity has increased.  Todd reminded everyone to look down the road long term regarding investments. Marv said OutBack Steakhouse is providing dinner at the Citizen of the Year event & they’ll have some good raffle items that night.  Lois passed around a Performance Audit petition for signing. Barbara Hawkins has a hypnotherapy business and offers retreats for businesses.  Sue was representing Frog Creek Lodge.  Mary said Angel Guild’s income is down and expenses are up.  Fred said the budget is being revised at the Fire Dept.  Kip from Peninsula Market said the goal is to build a new Key Center store in 5 years.  Eric said the goal of the Fire Dept this year is staffing.  Marlies can beat airline prices and is available when you need her.  Jerry said the KP Metro Park Dist. is discussing forming a citizens advisory committee. Ruth said the Two Waters Arts has their Spring Fling on Feb. 26th.  Bek chairs the Relay for Life in Port Orchard held in June. They raise funds for the American Cancer Society and volunteers are welcome.
