Minutes for Friday, Dec. 17, 2004

Place: Horseshoe Lake Restaurant

Present: June Williams presiding. Barb Heard, Dennis Taylor, Ruth Bramhall, Bek Ashby, Marty Marcus, Fred & Mary Ramsdell, Ed Taylor, Marv Keizur, Debra McElroy, Lois McMahan, Joe Rhea, Todd Rosenbach, Joyce Tovey.

Meeting called to order at 12:00pm.

Guest Speakers: Ric Hallock, editor of the Peninsula Gateway, was the guest speaker.  Ric stressed the importance of community input for newspaper articles and hopes to build Key Peninsula readership through the KeyViews section of the Gateway.

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from Dec. 3rd. Treasurer’s Report: Balance on hand is $2584.31.

Old Business/Committees:

  1. KP Community Council – Joyce reported the council operates on a committee basis and that one doesn’t have to be a member of the council to be on a committee.
  2. KP Fair –Fred presented a check in the amount of $1847.57 to the KPBA. Their elected officers include Pam Libstaff as President, Ruth Bramhall as Vice President and Barbara Heard as Secretary.  The Treasurer position is still open.  Any suggestions for improvement are welcome.
  3. Business Economic Development –June reported that people from the Key Peninsula are getting more involved.
  4. Key Peninsula Community Plan –The open house was well attended.
  5. Road Clean Up – Planned for January or February.
  6. Annual Dinner – Ruth reported the date is January 17, 6:00pm at Camp Seymour. Cost is $15 per person, which includes wine. Prepay to Ruth.  Dinner includes a beef dish or salmon.
  7. 2005 Budget Committee – Dennis distributed copies of the 2005 proposed budget. It was MSC (Fred) to approve the 2005 budget.

New Business: 

  1. New Meeting Place – It was MSC (Fred) to move the KPBA luncheon meetings to Blondie’s in Key Center, starting with the January 21st meeting.
  2. Speakers – Dennis distributed a bio on Lt. Larry Bauer with the Peninsula Detachment of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Dept., the guest speaker for February, possibly.
  3. Brochures – A committee will be formed in January to create new brochures in March for paid members.
  4. PHS Senior Projects – Evaluators are needed on January 20, 2005.

Individual Reports:

Fred distributed an example of KPBA letterhead that he created.  Mary said the Angel Guild is closed for 2 weeks for cleaning.  Bek said interest rates are still low at North Bay Mortgage.  Lois said the district office is open until the end of the year.  She can be reached at home if needed.  Barb mentioned a couple of certificate promotions with good dividend rates at Sound Credit Union.  Marv expressed his appreciation for a lengthy treasurer position with the KPBA.  His singing group is disbanding after 22 years.  Marty mentioned there are new environmental directors at Camp Seymour.  June reminded everyone of the free small business bank accounts at Key Bank.  Joyce said sales were up 16% from last year at Windermere Realty and they had a very successful coat drive for Lulu’s Christmas Party.  Joe mentioned that Burger King should be ready for business by the end of January.  Ric said the Business section of the Gateway would feature a business every week.
