Will also need someone to schedule speakers on behalf of the association as Dennis is stepping aside from his position with Safe Streets as of August 31. The association will send a letter of appreciation noting Dennis’ outstanding service to the community.

Guest Speaker: Mr. Terry Lee

Several topics were presented and discussed, including:

Tacoma Narrows Airport: The city of Tacoma is interested in surplusing the facility. Possibilities, including county ownership, and parks and recreation as a desired use, are being explored.

Key Peninsula Community Services: Books were in disarray despite good intentions. The Council is offering support based upon contingencies.

KPCC: Continued support for a vital local facility and organization facing financial challenges.

Sheriff’s Department: New Website allows for real time notification when reporting crimes “…in progress…”

Thanks to Dennis Taylor for his efforts in helping to get a drug paraphernalia ordinance on the books.

Shoreline Master Program: The state has mandated a review to be completed by 2011. The council is attempting to complete this by 2008. It will include an inventory of all the county’s shorelines, and will address issues including aquaculture, and marsh, estuary, and eel grass bed protection.

Council Charter Review Commission: This body is independent of the council. After completing their evaluation the commission will send several options to the voters for approval in November.

Key Peninsula Community Plan: The council continues to provide staff to assist in the planning committee’s efforts.

360 acres: Working with DNR to make the transfer. Issues relating to the property’s valuation have slowed progress.

Individual Reports:

Joyce: Business continues to be good, but there is a noticeable change from last year at this time. Windermere is collecting school supplies again this year.

Joe Rhea: Lake Kathryn’s 20th Anniversary Celebration is approaching. Lake Kathryn did not see a significant increase in business as a result of the Ren Faire.

Jeff Harris: No plans to move off the peninsula despite Marsha’s new job.

Marty Marcus: See us at the KPCC 50th Anniversary.

Ruth Bramhall: The Fair has received a lot of positive feedback from community members. The fair planning retreat is scheduled for September. Members from each sponsoring organization are encouraged to participate. Mary Graves and Pam Libstaff have resigned from their positions.

Al Yanity: Opposing the fire department’s lid lift levy as means to address concerns relating to fitness.

Lois MacMahan: The next event will be a Victory Party scheduled for September 19th. It will likely be in the Pt. Orchard area.

Barbara Heard: Sound is offering a HELOC -1.01 under prime. There is a great introductory VISA offer. The branch has recently completed a quality service training program.

Lynn Marshall: The restaurant is moving away from the “Underground” concept, and will instead use this area for groups, etc. Not much business as a result of the Ren Faire.

Sheryl Mirenta: Business is going well. Lots of teens are filling up the shop. KC Computers is looking for ways to tie this in to the business.

Bek Ashby: North Bay Mortgage does mortgages in addition to the many other events they participate in. Interest rates are still very affordable. North Bay can work with mobile homes.

Ed Taylor: The KPCC needs its community members to join in as active participants.

High McMillan: The KPBA is invited to sponsor a table of eight at the upcoming Peninsula Education Foundation Breakfast on October 13th.

Marlise Van Cise: The travel business has recently been clouded by the events taking place in London. A Canadian adventure by bus is currently being planned.

Joe Hendricks: See e-mail for new contact information as business has merged with JoBehaviors. New phone # 253-732-3120.

Marv Keizur: Business has slowed. New business and referrals are always welcome. Remember that the Lions are always looking for volunteers.

Larry Seaquist: Enjoying the campaign and getting to meet lots of people.

Respectfully Submitted,

Todd Rosenbach
