Minutes for Friday, April 21, 2006

Place: Blondie’s. The meeting was called to order at 12:00 pm.

Present: Bek Ashby presiding. Lynn Marshall, Jeff Harris, Barbara Heard, Tara Froode, Ed Taylor, Ruth Bramhall, Dennis Taylor, Devin Kimura. Marlise Van Cise, Rev. Arlyce W. Kretschman, Marvin Keizur, Myrtle Keizur, Lois MacMahan, Joe Rhea, Jud Morris, Joyce Tovey, Roxyanne Wooldridge, Cy Young, & Mary Graves.

           

Secretary’s Report: It was MSC to approve the 04/21/06 meeting minutes.

 

Treasurer’s Report: It was MSC to pay $10.00 to renew the organization’s non-profit status.

 

Bills paid included:

Guest Speaker: Devin Kimura, President, Artbeads.com

Devin Kimura, the president of Artbeads.com, an internet based business that recently relocated to a site on the Key Peninsula, summarized some of the highlights of the business. Devin related how the business was founded, and the process through which it has grown from a home based second source of income to a business supporting more than 80 full time and proximately 10 temporary employees.

 

The company is one of the web’s leading suppliers of beads and related jewelry making supplies. It is most recognized for its specialization in Swarovski crystal components and sterling silver.

 

Artbeads.com shipped over 58 million beads last year, and continues to expand its business.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Business/Committee Reports:

  1. Marketing: The website redesign is in process and should be ready to go online in approximately one month. Make sure to verify and update your personal information. Your dues must be current to be included on the website.  A Spring “After Hours” is being discussed.
  2. Livable Community Fair: The Livable Community Fair will be held on Saturday, May 13, at the Civic Center. KPBA members may provide materials to be placed on display at the association booth. Volunteers are welcome to assist in manning the booth. Jeff Harris is the contact person, and can be reached at 884-4697.
  3. KP Fair: KPBA members are asked to assist in sponsorship solicitation efforts. All members are encouraged to sponsor the fair. Other sub-committees would welcome additional volunteers.
  4. Comprehensive Plan Committee: The committee’s focus has been on transportation. Improving the capacity of existing arterials is a top priority. An upcoming issue likely to have a significant impact on businesses is signage.
  5. Community Council: The council is looking for new members to represent regions 1, 2, & 4.

 

Individual Reports:

 Bek: North Bay Mortgage’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt was a great success.  The commercial lending office, located in Tacoma, will be North Bay’s ninth office.

Jeff: The incident at KPMS highlights how the efforts of various community resources are imperative in supporting the positive development of the area’s youth.

Joe:  The pharmacy continues to be very busy.

Lois: Everyone is invited to attend her ice cream social and fund raiser. See the date and time in the events calendar.

Marv: Marv is the current president elect of the Lions Club. New members are welcome. The Lions are funding a retaining wall project at the park.

Mary: Plans for the fair are progressing quickly. All sponsorship help is welcome.

Ed: Business continues to be strong.

Joyce: Business is following season cycle, and appears to be picking up. Long term rates remain reasonable.

Barb: Sound Credit Union is offering “Johnny Appleseed “savings accounts for children ages 3 to 12. The Johnny Appleseed Open House is scheduled fro Thursday, April 27th.

Tara: Ravensara also serves pastries and other baked goods.

Dennis: Beginning April 29th, the Crime Prevention Committee will host an open forum for the general public at the Key Peninsula Library. These meetings are held at 9:00 am. The Human Resources Committee will be addressing readiness for the Avian Bird Flu at 3:00 pm on April 25th. Both of these meetings will be held at the Key Peninsula Library’s conference room.

Lynn: Blondie’s’ Underground, a pub-like atmosphere to be located downstairs, will be open in approx 3 weeks.  The Underground will also include an outdoor area.

Ruth: Remember to make it to the Sportsman’s Breakfast. See dates and times below.

 

 

Arlyce: Shared information relating to the Longbranch Community Church and the church’s relationship to the community. She welcomed everyone to attend.

Marlise: Just back from Mexico. There is still room on the Pacific Coast Fall Cruise. Remember to attend the Longbranch Improvement Club’s Dock Breakfast on May 6th. It’s great fun! See date and time below.

Jud: Invited community members to attend the Children’s Home Society’s Community Advisory Committee.

Cy Young and Roxyanne Wooldridge: Shared information relating to the Peninsula Veteran’s Institute, a veteran’s organization formed to assist veterans and other community members. The primary fundraiser for the organization is the annual fireworks stand at Lake Kathryn.
