Minutes for Friday, April 6, 2007

 

Place: Homeport Restaurant

Present: Vice President Claudia Loy presiding. Barb Heard, Ruth Bramhall, Marty Marcus, Laurie Ellis, Ross Bischoff, Shane Plummer, Bek Ashby, Tim Kezele and Chuck West. 

Meeting called to order at 7:40am.  Introductions were made.

Guest Speakers: None

Secretary’s Report/Corres: It was MSC to approve the minutes from March 16, 2007.

Treasurers Report: Balance on hand is $5640.50. A profit & loss statement was distributed.  There are presently 53 paid members.

Old Business/Committees:

  1. Scholarship Committee – Barb reported that two recipients were chosen and will be awarded their scholarships on May 23rd.   
  2. Mike Boyle – Mike owns North Bay Mortgage and is our guest speaker at the April 20th meeting…have your questions ready on the subject of marketing.  Discussion ensued regarding services available in our community, but more marketing is needed
  3. KP Fair – Ruth reported that pre-sale carnival tickets have arrived and will be selling for $18.00.
  4. KP Council – No report.
  5. KP Planning – Chuck West reported that the community character meeting was more about recommendations and to encourage support.  He said they were looking for commercial buildings with a Northwest theme (greens, browns, natural tones), pedestrian walkways linking businesses, and combining parking lots to help with the flow.  They were also looking for signage and ways to slow traffic down.  A public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10th.

New Business:

  1. Road Clean Up – Marty reported that Pierce County could not leave the equipment with us on a permanent basis, but orange safety vests could be purchased for $6 each.  It was MSC to spend up to $100 for vests and a tote.  Barb suggested breakfast purchased for the volunteers by the KPBA after a litter pick up.  A decision on this subject was tabled until the next meeting.
  2. Pierce County Coalition for Environmental Health Priorities – Project goal meetings are scheduled for April 12, May 10, June 14 and July 12.  Discussion ensued regarding that there are enough redundant regulations and at some point new regulations need to be stopped.  People need to attend these meetings and voice their opinion.
  3. Mike & Denise Hays – Bek reported that Mike & Denise need support for their Mercantile project.  It was MSC that Mike would complete the documentation that shows KPBA support for the Mercantile resolution.
  4. Heritage Nursery & Landscape - Scheduled to open April 15th with a farmers market on Sundays from 10am-3pm.
  5. Brochures – Bek inquired as to the whereabouts of any remaining brochures and should more be printed.  Ruth & Bek will check for more brochures at the office after the meeting.

Individual Reports:

Laurie is busy at Ellis Accounting with taxes.  Ruth is selling tickets to the Sportsman’s Breakfast.  Ross has rhubarb growing and almost has a permit for his barn.  Shane is doing more concrete work since a new concrete foreman was hired.  Tim is busy with his tree care business and said the Historical Society needs new members.  Chuck reported the skate park slab would be poured the end of June and the Fire Dept. has a new ambulance coming.  Barb said a part time position is open at Sound Credit Union.  Leslie said a party is planned for retiring UPS driver Gary.  Bek suggested those with ARM’s move to fixed rates.  The Pen Contest with monthly prizes is starting May 1st.  Marty has been busy finding homes for turtles and pythons.  Claudia is celebrating their 25th anniversary with Ed Hume coming to Sunnycrest Nursery June 8th & 9th.
